Devo Time: How Bad Do You Want It pt. 3

Here we go...the 3rd part in this short series.  We are examining the 3 different stories that all have a common theme of "REACH."  If you haven't read the background on this, feel free to catch up here with the intro & the 1st story.  The 2nd story is about Zaccheus.  If you haven't read about him here's the story below.

Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. 2 A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. 3 He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way. 5 When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” 6 So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly. 7 All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.” 8 But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.” 9 Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

So much to unpack here.  Zacchaeus was a tax collector.  They were viewed in negative way, perceived as greedy, and just bad people.  Not only that, the guy was short.  He had a few things going against him.  But that didn't stop him.  Think about it, you're at the SF Giant's parade when they won the World Series, or the Warrior Parade when they won the championships.  So many people, you're in the back because you didn't get there at the butt crack of dawn, and you're short like me (I'm 5'2.5" yes the .5 matters).  Would you climb a tree to get a glimpse of Steph or Lincecum!??  I definitely wouldn't.  What if it was Jesus? How far would you go to just see Him?

This story is so important for a few reasons.  It doesn't matter who you are - Jesus wants you. Regardless of your background, your past, your current situation, your look, your failures - HE WANTS YOU - ALL OF YOU!  Another lesson in this is - He sees you and is not ashamed of you.  Some times we feel like..Yes God loves me - but He secretly He is ashamed of me.  That way of thinking is so far from the truth.  In the Zacchaeus story - Jesus told everyone that He was going to His house and proud of it!  Jesus loves you and wants everyone to know that He does!

Our everyday lives is that evidence!  Scream it out on the rooftops, tell everyone that Jesus loves YOU FOR YOU!  He sees you and loves everything about you!  Don't ever forget that, and don't ever be ashamed of who you are.  Keep reaching out to Him in any situation and in any season because He wants to reach back out to you!!!  Do you relate to this story?
